Alice and Matt’s story began when Matt was looking for a flat-mate to reduce rent costs. He recruited his korfball team-mate, Helen, who later took him to a Twelfth Night houseparty hosted by childhood school friend, Harriet. It was here that Helen introduced Matt to her sister, Alice. A few months later, Alice visited Helen at the flat in Exeter when Helen and Matt were hosting a Eurovision Song Contest Party. This is where the pair really hit it off. Alice was lucky enough to draw the winning team (Sweden) to support for the evening and Matt was opportunistic and swapped the card that he had drawn for one he had spotted dropped on the floor (Russia) as they looked likely to come second. And so he ensured that he and Alice would end up going head to head in a lip-sync battle at the end of the evening, a battle that Matt won convincingly, but as he says “that’s not what it was about”.

Then followed several years of weekends spent trekking back and forth between Exeter and Farnham. They indulged in their shared interests of pasta, adventures and escape rooms. Alice introduced Matt to True Crime podcasts and Matt introduced Alice to women’s football and professional wrestling.

When Alice moved to Swansea to start her degree in Medicine, Matt left his home town to move up with her. Soon they acquired one cat, Penguin, and then not long after, came a kitten, Hiccup. Matt became a local celebrity, featuring on local news and TV advocating for more male role models in childcare, whilst Alice worked studiously to learn the art of doctoring (appearing on BBC online only briefly).

Eventually, it became clear that life in Swansea was missing something – a korfball team they could call their own! And so the two set about establishing the Swansea Roar Korfball Club (this was rather novel for Alice, who had not actually played korfball prior to this point). Now, as you will see from your invite, Alice and Matt have decided to formalise their union and begin their next chapter. We look forward to celebrating the occasion with you.
